Better health care for Wanneroo

Wanneroo residents will have better access to doctors, nurses and allied health professionals with the signing of a funding agreement between the Australian Government, Western Australia’s Government and Edith Cowan University to establish the $22 million Wanneroo GP Super Clinic.
Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon and West Australian Senator Louise Pratt welcomed the signing of the agreement and recognised the significance of this important multi-party agreement in boosting the provision of health services in Wanneroo.
“The Wanneroo GP Super Clinic will involve a significant contribution of $12m from Edith Cowan University, $5m from the Western Australia’s Government and $5m from the Australian Government,” Minister Roxon said.
“While it has taken some time to resolve the legal arrangements around these large contributions, the end result will be a major health project delivering a range on new and improved services for the local community.
“GP Super Clinics are part of our commitment to boost frontline GP and primary healthcare services to deliver tangible benefits to local communities.”
West Australian Senator Louise Pratt said the Wanneroo GP Super Clinic will bring together GPs, nurses, visiting medical specialists, allied health professionals and other healthcare providers and services.
“It is expected that the Wanneroo clinic will include general practice, psychology, podiatry, speech therapy and occupational therapy as well as services delivered by Aboriginal Health Workers and a visiting paediatric specialist,” Senator Pratt said.
“The clinic will have a major focus on education and training for medical, nursing and allied students from Edith Cowan University and the University of Western Australia.
“Students will benefit from purpose-built, modern training facilities that provide opportunities for staff to learn alongside each other as part of multidisciplinary teams.
“The clinic plans to bulk bill for health care concession card holders, pensioners, children under 16, and all Medicare chronic disease management items, including allied health services under Medicare.”
The Gillard Government is investing $650 million to build more than 60 GP Super Clinics and invest in more than 400 infrastructure programs in GP clinics around the country. 33 GP Super Clinics are either open, delivering early services or under construction.
