Mark Dreyfus QC MP, Federal Member for Isaacs, this Friday will join the Keysborough Secondary College community to officially open their new $1.97 million Science Centre.

Mr Dreyfus said the Australian Government's historic Building the Education Revolution (BER) program was delivering modern facilities to schools throughout Australia.

The $16.2 billion program is the biggest single investment in the modernisation of Australia's schools. Projects like the new science centre are making a real difference, by improving the teaching and learning environment for our children. The Government's investment has resulted in libraries, science centres, classrooms and multi-purposes halls being built across the country.

"The Science Centre, which was funded through the BER program, will bring benefits to local students for years to come," Mr Dreyfus said.

"Recent graduates from the college have continued their studies in the fields of science, engineering and biomedical sciences at university. This new science centre is a fantastic addition to the college and will encourage more students to study science, enhancing their educational and employment opportunities." Mr Dreyfus said.

Heather Lindsay, Principal Keysborough Secondary College said: "The BER science centre is an important facility that will enhance the teaching of science at the college. Well equipped rooms, flexible teaching spaces together with excellent technology and video conferencing equipment will mean that our senior science students now have excellent facilities as well as excellent teachers. This facility complements our new junior school facilities at our Banksia and Acacia campuses."
